Difficulty with entering triplets
I am trying to tidy up some service music by notating it in Musescore (under Linux). I am new to Musecore so please forgive any "silly" questions ...
I successfully entered the first triple on the G Clef, but when I come to enter the next triplet in that first bar but entering a crotchet and using CTRL-3, then enter the second note, Musecore splits it into tied quavers. I'm not sure how to correct that.
I have attached:
a) handwritten original response
b) Musecore file for my attempt
Thanks for your patience.

Triplets/Tuplets in MuseScore always start from the total duration. My guess is that since the last note you've entered into the first triplet is a quarter note, you still have that duration set when creating the next triplet. Hence MuseScore dutifully creates a triplet within the total duration of a quarter.
First select your total duration, then issue the triplet command.
The Handbook covers this as well as answering future situations that you are likely to encounter. In your case, pressing 6 (set the duration) then [Ctrl]-3 (set the number of divisions) is what you want.
