Sorry to be thick but its the first time I have tried to install a plugin. Since its a qml document it does not need to be uncompressed. I have downloaded it to my Documents folder. In the Handbook it says: ' simply download it and place it into one of the same directories' What does that mean ? Thanks for your patience.

Instead of putting it in Documents, you should put it Documents/MuseScore3/Plugins - that is your plugins folder - the one described in the Handbook. At no time should you be trying to "open" it - just download it into the correct folder. Or if it is already downloaded into the wrong folder, just move it, using your favorite file browser (eg, Explorer on Windows, Finder on macOS). Once it is in the correct folder, then you will see it in Plugins / Plugin Manager. Still, don't "open" it, just check the box next to its next. Then close the Plugin Manager, and you will then find the plugin in the Plugins, ready to run directly (again, no opening involved).
