can't change Instru middle of measure

• Feb 27, 2022 - 19:04

Am using ver 3.6.2 and don't seem to be able to change instrument in middle of a measure.
I have tried what handbook says per
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/mid-staff-instrument-changes

The displays that I see do not match HB. F9 brings up pallets OK, but there is nothing about "text."
And dbl vs single clicks behave the same.
Alternatively, "add text" from top menu brings up formatting choices, font/etc.

Attached score is from Muscore "music tunes" site. (I dont know what else to call the site.)

I am trying to change any 1 or 2 notes (as test) in first staff to be guitar instead of whatever it is.

There should be a pallet labelled "Text" unless you have hidden it. You can restore it as described here https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/palettes#show-hidden-palette.

You can also add text items using the Add>Text menu See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/text-basics#add-text
This allows you to select one of the various text types available. You want the Instrument Change of course.

So, first select a note or rest where you want the change to happen. Then add the Instrument Change text by clicking on the pallet item or on the menu item. In this case I recommend using the menu rather than the pallet as there is a bug in the pallet item that screws up changes between instruments with different transpositions.
