You can add a shortcut in Edit >Preferences >Shortcuts. Look for Fingering and assign an unused key (I have used [Ctrl][Shift]K). When you type this key combination you can then enter the fingering number. Press [Spacebar] to advance to next note and [Esc] to exit fingering entry.
