Ongoing issue with getting notes to sound when inputting notes
Coming back once again to this same set of issues. I have been limping along without finding a solution.
If I start with a new empty file, I hear sound when notes on the keyboard are pressed. When I then enter Note Input mode, I hear the notes as I input them (with MIDI keyboard or mouse) as one would expect, however, for each note I enter, I hear two notes, with a hiccup between. Somewhat like a piano double-strike when the action needs adjustment. When I click on a note I get the same disturbing sound. Playback, however, sounds as it should.
If I then begin adding instruments, and doing the same Note-Input test, the problem worsens with each add. The notes are shortened and the hiccup is more pronounced. When I have eight or so instruments in the file, I get no sound at all on Note Input or mouse-click. Subtract the instruments, and the system response changes, getting better and better, but even with one instrument in the file, I still get the double-strike.
I have tried multiple restarts, resetting to factory defaults.

My guess is your MIDI setup has a loop somehow, where notes you play are being sounded twice by two different devices, or the same action is triggering two separate MIDI events both processed by the same device. I would try simply disconnecting your MIDI controller or disabling MIDI input on the MuseScore toolbar. If that fixes it, then the problem is presumably in something about how you have your system set up, so you'd need more details on that - what devices are involved, how they are wired up, what other MIDI-aware programs might be listening in and propagating events, what devices drivers you are using, what settings in any other relevant software, etc.

I am surprised to discover that the issue appears to be the device, Native Instruments Audio 6. It has no driver - a class compliant device. But, if I use my NI Audio One device, the problem disappears. I do recall that they used a firmware update to make this into a class complaint device - When I got it it used a driver to work with Win10.

A completely new problem/solution to me, but I'm glad it's at least partially worked out! I don't understand any more than you why this mattered. I'm thinking maybe a setting within the device might be somehow causing the issue, and the default for that setting is different between drivers. But that's just a wild guess based on the info, not any real insight.

I happen to have two Audio 6 devices, and the issue occurs with both of them. I had confirmed this earlier and concluded that it wasn't the device since the problem was unchanged. Only today did I go find the Audio 1 and found that MS works right with that device. BTW other MIDI programs (PIANOTEQ) work with the Audio 6.(!)
I sent a message to NI hardware support to see if they have any comments. I Googled around, but don't see anything posted from other users of the device.

(continuing) All of the boxes in Preferences appear correct. Enable MIDI input is checked; and Play Notes When
Editing is checked. The I/O shows my MIDI keyboard and the device in the correct drop-down boxes.
I have tried everything without success. I have searched the database, and find some users with problems like this, but no solutions.
I am running the current version of Musescore on a Mac Mini with the current version of OSX. I have the same set of issues when using Musescore on the PC. Up to date Windows 10 and MS. My device is a Native Instruments Complete Audio 6.
When I open the enclosed file, I get no sound on Note Entry. If I subtract multiple instruments, I get the distorted response noted above on Note Entry.
Any help would be appreciated.
Anybody know of a Musescore Guru that would sell me some time?
