When editing lyrics, MuseScore should give audible feedback about the note/chord you are currently editing lyrics for. This can be done by playing the note or chord when you:

  • First start editing the lyric by double-clicking on it or pressing the Alt+Shift+E edit shortcut
  • Move from one lyric syllable to the next by pressing the left/right arrow key, underscore (_), hypen-minus (-).
  • Press the Return key to start editing a new lyrics line.

This will aid visually impaired users, who currently have to keep track of the melody in their head as they move from note-to-note typing lyrics.

It may also be possible to get the screen reader to say the name of the note (e.g. "Editing lyric for note C4 quarter, bar 2, beat 3, staff 1 (Piano)"). Currently the screen reader just says the lyric syllable itself (if there is one) but it says nothing when entering a lyric for the first time. Ideally it should say the lyric syllable followed by a slight pause and then give the information about the note.
