Where to download Muse Sounds

• Jul 12, 2022 - 19:15

I recently downloaded the latest nightly build of Musescore 4 and was given the option to install the Muse Sounds library. Whenever I tried to, though, nothing happened for several minutes after pressing the download button. After canceling, I was not given another chance to get it. I thought installing an older build would bring up the download prompt again, but it didn't.
Browsing the site didn't help much either. This article (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/soundfonts) makes mention of a "Muse Installer," but does not explain what that even is or how to use it. I thought I was getting somewhere with this page (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/working-vsti), which includes a link for how to install Muse Sounds. Upon visiting this link, however, it turned out to be a complete dead end. Finally, this handbook entry (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/new-features-musescore-4) claims that Muse Sounds is available as a separate download, yet gives no location for said download.
Am I screwed at this point since I wasn't able to download it upon the first opening of Musescore 4, or am I just looking in the wrong places?

Quick question - where on our hard drives are the Muse Sounds downloaded to? Another - in the Musecound cafe video, you mentioned something about updates. Are updates going to be automatic? Thanks.

Also, I downloaded some of the sounds, one of which was keys. When I bring up a score with piano and activate Muse Sounds, the mixer still says, "MS Basic." Is this me or something else?

Hello! To see the location of the download on your system, click the settings icon at top right in Muse Hub.

There does seem to be an automatic update option in that same window, but I have no idea how that will work,

To actually get a score to use Msue Sounds, you need to do as I show in the Café video - go to View / Playback setupo, and activate the Muse Sounds profile (which you can also make the default for new scores). Or, you can select sounds individually in the Mixer.

For people wondering, I did a demo of Muse Sounds yesterday as part of my weekly MuseScore Café live stream series. See https://community.masteringmusescore.com/c/cafe-watch/musescore-cafe-mu…
