No audio after installing Windows 11

• Jul 24, 2022 - 16:10

Hello,

I'm using Musescore now for many years. Now, since I installed Windows 11, Musescore stops playing audio. Sometimes it gives noise, sometimes the audio is dead. It also affects all audio from other software, after running Musescore. All these apps are working fine with audio, until I start Musescore.

Only the HP Support Assistant can restore the audio by making the audio default, or by replacing the audiodrivers.

Again running Musescore will start all the problems again.

I know there are more questions about it on this forum, but none of the given solutions will help me further.

What am I doing Wrong?

I have been able to get W11 on my old HP laptop via a workaround. I have no such sound problems. Have you tried the other drivers in the I/O section of Preferences. I think MuseScore selects MME by default. Try Direct Sound (DS) or WASAPI instead.

Thank you for your reply. I've tried both. Both give the noise for each app that is playing audio.
When selecting the other options, all options are gone and will come back after restoring Musescore to default settings.

Audio will be normal after running HP Support assistant. Sometimes I get here the message Audio format not set as default, sometimes it installs the audio drivers again. I need the support assistent. only a simple reboot will not bring the audio back.

You can try to somehow open your audio settings, find and change (for example, set it to 44100Hz) the relevant section from the tabs at the top.

(see attached screenshot)
I fixed the crackling sound from here a few times on win10. After a while (I don't know for what reason) there was no need to fix it again. Maybe some other software was interfering and changing the settings, I don't know)

I know when I put W11 on my old HP laptop, I had several issues. It barely ran at first. Probably because my laptop doesn't really meet the standards. I found a registry setting that let me install it. After the install, I was able to go to the Microsoft download site and load W11 again. Then W11 worked fine. I'm not saying you need to do that. Just saying what I went through. Audio is fine on my HP.

So, in preferences, try each of the other drivers. Except ASIO unless you cave an ASIO card. I know you tried 2 of them.
One other trick is to not only delete the driver, but delete the device too. Then have Windows scan for new devices (from the same page. Windows will scan for new devices and reinstall everything.

I've tried them all. None worked.
In Musescore, I set the driver. Exit Musescore, Run problemsolver to restore audioproblems, reboot, than run Musescore with the selected driver.
When Musescore didn't show the drivers, I selected the button settings to default, followed by the process above to select the next driver.

I've deleted the devices in Devicemanager, Than let Windows find them agian. This did not work.
Also in Devicemanager, I selected the device, opened the properties and deleted here the drivers. Than I installed new drivers from the Intel's website. Also no solution.

Finaly found the solution. I removed the drivers again and installed now with search available drivers on my computer. There were now two options: A driver from 2019 and a driver from 2022. I selected the oldest one and done!

Thank you al for your support,
Kind regards,
Frank
