How to change instrument sound in playback?

• Aug 17, 2022 - 13:22

I just got musescore and have been attempting to transcribe a ukulele melody. I would like to be able to listen to it in an actual ukulele sound, not piano, but I don't know how to do that. I've seen a lot of people mention the mixer and fluid, but I'm very unfamiliar with how this works. I changed the "sound" option in the mixer to ukulele, but I still hear piano in the playback.

Change that instrument (presumably stemming from the treble clef template) to an Ukulele: right-click into the staff, Staff/Part Properties > Change Instrument > Ukulele

Changing the sound in Mixer should also work, at least sound-wise, if it doesn't, you'd need to share the score

Changing the sound in the mxier should work indeed,d but definitely, the wrong way to do it, since everything else will still be wrong - the staff name, the range, etc.

Instead, simply create your score for ukulele to begin with instead of just starting with the default piano score. File / New, select Ukulele when it's time choose instruments. But as mentioned, you can also use the Change Instrument button in Staff/Part Properties to fix this in an existing score you've already made using piano.

I have this very same problem!! I asked on the FB group, and no help there. Marc suggested I ask here & include my score. I just did that a few minutes ago -- hope we get more help on this issue.

If you have found out how to make your playback and exported audiofiles to sound like a Uke (or at least a guitar and NOT a piano), please let me know. Glad I'm not the only one with this problem!

I got an answer to my similar question...apparently what you and I are identifying as a piano is the Ukulele sound. Not at all Ukulele-like, is it? So, bottom line, we're not doing anything wrong, that's just what MuseScore assigns to the Ukulele soundfont.
