Asking help to troubleshoot distorted audio during playback

• Oct 19, 2022 - 11:16

The attached score experiments with 5 synthesizer instruments. As the music gets 'denser' in the last measures, the audio occasionally garbles, distorts. Volume control changes inside MuseScore and in my (Ubuntu 18.04) audio settings make no difference. The distorted sound is still heard though I make the volume softer.

I haven't had such distorted playback in even the largest scores, to date. Researching this, I came across "PULSE_LATENTCY_MSEC=30", and tried out that suggestion. Running the ApplImage as seen in the attached command line capture, does not solve the audio distortion at playback (only at the last measures of the score in question).

Any ideas? Thanks.

Forgot to mention: Trying to MUTE different combinations of the 5 instruments, only if I mute 3 of the 5, will the distortion go away.

I can hear some distortion with the GeneralUser GS MuseScore v1.442.sf2 soundfont in measures 10 to 12 caused by the echoes synthesizer channel. I'm using Win7.
With the MuseScore_General.sf3 and the MuseScore_General_HQ.sf3 there is no sound at the echoes, the atmosphere and sci-fi synthesizer channel.

Thanks @bobjp & @HildeK for trying the score. Not sure what to do, I'm mostly locked into the Ubuntu/Linux machine I work on. I may try some non-synthesizer instruments just to see.
