MS4 handbook: remove gifs?

• Nov 16, 2022 - 09:40

IMV, gifs are not a good medium for conveying info to handbook readers. The small, fast-moving animation makes it difficult to grasp what is going on and where, even for an experienced user. In addition, some of the images have a large arrow in the middle obscuring the view.

We need to make the handbook as user-friendly as possible. I would like to suggest removing most, if not all, gifs and sticking to text and static images.

While I tend to agree, it was decided by the design team to use them where it made sense. So, please don't remove ones already present. But, it's OK if it's hard to find additional opportunities where it does make sense. We're investigating the possibility of supporting actual video.

It seems to be some bug on web, that only single gif per page is working fine. If there are more, only last one works as expected. Clicking on arrow should hide it. But it hides always last one, not that one, You clicked. Test:

and second
