[MuseScore 4] Creating a blank score completely breaks adding notes

• Dec 16, 2022 - 14:07

I'm not sure what bizarre setup issue could be causing something like this:
I start MuseScore 4, create a new score, and add a piano. I set the key to D major and don't touch any other settings. Once the blank score opens, I try and add a note, and the application then continues adding notes at a rate of >10 per second. If I try and add more notes, they add to a chord. Pressing Space to start playback doesn't change anything; pressing Escape multiple times is the only way to stop notes being added.
I can't attach a score since the issue isn't with a score, but I did record a video of it happening.

How are you trying to add the note? Seems like you have a stuck key or mouse button, most likely. If you want to use video, better to simply post a link to the video on YouTube, BTW.

I tried both clicking on the staff to add a note and using keyboard keys. Both my keyboard and mouse are working perfectly otherwise. An interesting factor is that it's less broken when using Muse Sounds instead of MS Basic. Playback is still broken with Muse Sounds, but differently: the notes sound, but slightly weirdly and the volumes are all really low. Also, when playback ends, one of the instruments will play a very short A4.
A YouTube video would have been better, but my brain was a bit fried when I posted, so. Oh well.

I'd imagine it's something very broken deep in a configuration file somewhere. I installed the Muse Hub beta a few weeks ago, then when that broke I installed MuseScore 4 manually, then I upgraded to the release Muse Hub when that came out, then installed MuseScore 4 manually again after that broke, then when it fixed itself I uninstalled MuseScore 4 manually and installed it from Muse Hub. Somewhere in that mess, I'm assuming something broke, so I'll try your steps now.
