Crescendos and Diminuendo Not Working

• Dec 17, 2022 - 19:42

I can't seem to get dynamic hairpins to work with playback no matter what I do. In MuseScore 3, I tended to just mess with the velocity of the actual hairpin which always fixed it, but now in MuseScore 4 that isn't an option. I've also tried putting appropriate dynamics at both ends of the hairpin with no luck. Any suggestions?

To fix this go to Format > then click on Style... > then at the bottom left-hand corner click Reset All Styles To Default. Then click off that and Click on Format again > then click on Reset Shapes and Positions. That should fix it to make it more aligned and you should be able to drag the ends of the hairpins

I'm having the same issue. When I select a hairpin, there is no option to actually make it affect the dynamics. I can see a Checkbox called "play" but that is greyed out and can't be selected. There's also a button "playback" that is greyed out and can't be selected either.

I too have just discovered that the volume/velocity of dynamics, hairpins and text crescendos are NOT active yet. Good grief! I have no idea what a particular dynamic will be without the "velocity" menu active. In MuseScore 3, a "p" was a velocity of 49. Is that still true? I cannot tell. The "Playback" tab is greyed out. I routinely adjust these velocities to in-between volumes using the velocity box when making a score, then edit the text to read, "poco p" if lower, or "piu p" if higher. It gives me precise control. Whoever wrote MuseScore4, please add velocity playback editing to all dynamics marks ASAP. Thanks.

In fact without those velocity controls it is impossible to get an acceptable playback of any score. This, and the ability to control the lenght of notes, are the most serious flaws of the new MU4 playback.
Unfortunately I am not sure that those controls will ever be restored, since they are typical of MIDI architeture, and the new Muse Sounds is based on something completely different, as I was informed.

Adjusting dynamics, hairpins and crescendo volumes are integral to any music notation software. I am sure the coders of MS4 realize this and intend to add it back. If not, then practically no one will be able to use MS4 and the whole effort will be worthless. Let's hope!

Do you really think that after all the time and effort that the fabulously talented musescore team have put into the musescore 4 project, that they would have somehow forgotten to consider this issue?

In all honesty....who knows more about MIDI architecture....you or Tantacrule and his team. Maybe you are a world leading expert? I don't know but somehow I suspect you aren't

Anyway.....there's no problem, just stick with musescore 3.6!

I didnt say I was sure they are using anything.... I just said that I was confident that such a skilled and dedicated team who are obviously commited to this project will give us full functionality.

I am surprised that V4 was released without these features. However....the improvements to engraving really make up for that. Stunning quality!

I agree that the designers of MS4 intend to have velocity as a field in the "playback" tab inside the "Properties" tab. I am just surprised that they released MS4 without it being active. It is an integral part of the program. However, I am sure it will appear soon.
