1) Make a string quarter in A Major 3/4 quarter=120

2) write an eight-note note at the last upbeat of a bar and then in the next bar write a dotted eight-note the same note an octave higher.

Personal input:
Have tried with other string instruments instruments, works fine, Violin I (solo) sounds a bit country at that jump which is not what I am looking for in my piece, but at least it is there.

I can reproduce this. Attached is a file that demonstrates all of the octave jumps in musesound's playable range. Several of them play the upper note an octave down, or are significantly delayed arriving at the upper note (sometimes even playing two notes at once) depending on tempo.

Additionally, some (but it's inconsistent!) of the higher ones are interpreted as sweeping glisses.
