Using LoopMIDI to sync with DAW, such as Ableton 11

• Dec 23, 2022 - 18:21

First of all, the new built-in midi sounds are AMAZING! I love them, but I would like to have a real-time link to a DAW to use non-orchestral, or custom, voices. I have a setup with Finale 27 (... I apologize for blaspheming), which works perfectly, I just like how MuseScore handles computer-keyboard note input infinitely more. I setup a virtual midi port using LoopMIDI between MuseScore and Ableton 11 and it works, except the only audible output from Ableton is a single note which is then held - like a drone. This note seems to be the first note MuseScore sends and then the rest are ignored for some reason. I would assume this has to do with midi channels... but am not sure. If something like LoopMIDI won't work, is there any consideration as to some other proprietary method, or partnership with a third party company, to allow connection with a DAW?

It works just fine with MuseScore 3.6.2 and Cakewalk by doing the following:

1) Start LoopMIDI
2) Start MuseScore and load a score.
3) Start Cakewalk (it prompted for installation of a MIDI driver so I said, "Yes")
4) Configure the MIDI Input device in Cakewalk as show in image.
5) Add a soft synthesizer track and choose a preset.
I chose a piano so that I could tell if MuseScore (guitar score) or Cakewalk (piano) was playing.
6) Press Play in MuseScore.

Both MuseScore and Cakewalk played the score and there was no delay between the two. I then muted MuseScore in Windows volume mixer and could only hear Cakewalk playing back as piano.
