MuseScore 4 audio has major improvements, but there are limitations

• Dec 27, 2022 - 06:59

(Sorted by my priority, lowest to highest.)

  1. (MuseSounds) Slightly tone back the velocity increases on shorter note values.

  2. MuseScore Drumline should be supported, or you should at least implement an automatic transition from MDL instruments to MuseScore 4 instruments/MuseSounds.

  3. (MuseSounds) Below mezzo-piano, some instruments are virtually silent (except horns, but I won't complain about that. We always need more horns).

  4. (MuseScore 4) It does not look like the dynamic markings have customizable velocities anymore. This option should be available under the Playback option in Properties.

  5. (MuseSounds) Extend playable pitch ranges of instruments to all possible notes. (I've heard and/or played notes higher and lower IRL than MuseSounds allows on Tuba, Horn, and Trombone.)

Comments

Thanks for the comments! For specific suggestions about specific sounds, please open an issue on GitHub (after first searching to see if one already exists), and be as specific as possible - ideally attaching a sample score and/or screen recording demonstrating the issue.

Pitch ranges issues are definitely already reported, so need to duplicate that.

For dynamics, it is by design that all playback settings are moved to the notes themselves. And a known limitation that currently this isn't supported for Muse Sounds, but an improved facility is expected in a coming update.
