Export to Braille

• Jan 3, 2023 - 20:33

I found in version 4 the function to export to a format for the visually impaired. This is great! However, my friend, to whom I immediately sent the resulting file for testing, said that there is a melody, but no lyrics.

Hello all- I can't get this to work on Mac OS. The drop-down to set format doesn't appear to be working that well.
Re the melody without lyrics... that's how it works at the moment - notation only, no text.
Also, while I'm here, What's the news on "live braille" and will this work on Mac OS?
Thanks-

Can you explain what goes wrong on for you? Are you saying the dropdown shows other options, but not Braille? Or that you are having trouble working the dropdown? What specifically goes wrong?

The first phase of the live Braille support (out, not input) is coming with 4.1 next week. In theory it works on all operating systems, but I'm not actually sure what support there is for external Braille devices on each system. I encourage you to download a beta build (see the Announcements forum) and test for yourself and let us know!

All right! I have played with thsi on MacOS Ventura. I cannot get the braille output to work at all. indeed the whole thing appears to be progressively breaking as there are inaccessible dialogues when I open a score. I can say not much more than this as I have nobody els around who knows music and the programme to help me. The simbraille (sim = simulated) is there but I cannot access it. somebody with eyes told me that. My braille device= a Brailliant Bi 40 X appears stuck and I can't do anything really.

Can you explain in more detail what goes wrong when you try to export Braille? And which dialogs are seeming inaccessible? Have you read the Accessibility section of the Handbook, or checked out the tutorial videos, to understand how navigation works in MuseScore 4? Try https://musescore.org/en/accessibility for an overview.
The tutorials I mentioned are linked ther,e but you can also reach them here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpx1s2WkyujYgLkA0r30sQGjVhWl4NKZ3

are you using the arrow keys to navigate the drop down after pressing space?

Here is as good a place as any to continue to discussion. If someone else on macOS can confirm the arrow keys aren’t working to navigate the drop-down after opening it, then that’s a bug, and then the next step is to open an issue on GitHub. But I’d be surprised as I haven’t heard any other reports of this.

Yay! I got it to work - exporting braille- not sure what I did but it now works as you said it would. Very good braille notation it is too!
Now, re the live braille. I cannot get it to work at all on Mac OS Ventura. VoiceOver has built-in braille support for a lot of displays but nothing shows on mine when I tab to the output. it just says dialogue and gets stuck on that. I have to restart my whole system to get regular braille output back again.
Hope this is helpful.
