Note disappearance, overly long rests and file corruption mystery

• Jan 5, 2023 - 22:39

I am writing a big band score at the moment and have encountered an alarming problem.
At measure 67, tpt. 2 should play the same melody as tpt. 1 and I wrote it so they do... yet when I open the file again tpt.2 has missing notes that are substituted with rests. Might I add, the rests don't make sense and end up creating a 6 beat measure.
Doesn't matter how I correct it (I've tried copy pasting, and also to manually re-enter all the notes), if I save and quit the app, it will be back to the faulty/broken state.
At the same measure (67) tpt3 and 4 are missing a note (a dotted eight-note) which has been replaced by a dotted rest (?). Again, when I correct it, it comes back faulty upon re-opening the file.
Another example: last measure, tpt3 & 4 should play the same notes as the previous measure and yet it shows a 2-beat rest on the 3rd beat, and again, doesn't matter how I correct it, it will be broken again when I reopen the file.
There are some similar issues everywhere on the score and it is quite alarming because I am afraid I won't notice all of them.

It also says the file si corrupted, and I've yet to understand why.

Quite the mystery.

Help will be most welcome :-)

I downloaded your score, tried to open. File corruption error (as seen below). Did not 'ignore'. Opened the .mscz score, extracted the .mscx file, tried to open that. Same error. I then tried again on the .mscz score, and chose 'ignore'. Score shown. Added measure numbers for my own use. Saw the measure 67 Tmpt2 prob. Deleted that measure's contents. Copied Tmpt1's measure into Tmpt2. Saved file. File corrupted error remains. Chose 'ignore'. Examined measure 67. Corrupted measure shown. Exported score as .xml and exited score with errors. Opened MS4 & loaded .xml file. Corrupted error message. Chose 'ignore'. Corrected Tmpt2 bad measure with contents of Tmpt1. Saved as .mscz file new name. Closed .xml version. Tried to open new .mscz (from .xml). Same file corruption error.

Alright. I'm throwing in the towel. Others who can suggest how to diagnose / find score corruption, that's what I tried...

I tried this:
1. Open the file in MS4, and ignore the corruptions
2. In MS4 export the file as MusicXML
3. Open the MusicXML file in MS3, choose "Show Details" of corruptions
4. Right-click the list of corruptions to Select All and Copy:

I suggest that you create an .mxl compressed MusicXML file in MS4, and then do all the repairs in MS3. That's because you can get an updated list of corruption errors in MS3, every time you re-open the score file after a Save and Close.
