Voltas not working in musescore 4

• Jan 7, 2023 - 20:28

Hi,
First of all, when adding volta 1 to a bar, it will only show on one instrument in the full score, not for every instrument (this was not the case with the previous edition of musescore). Also in format/style/volta, it's not possible to edit this and it's also not possible to click on "apply for all parts".
Then, when playing the score, it doesn't play the bar in question, it will just skip to the next bar.
Anyone knows of this problem and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance

This single instance of the volta definitely is the normal case in MS 3.6.2 as it is in MS 4.0.

But you are right that in the old MS 2.3.2 one could create multiple instances of the volta on every stave. However for a Full Score (conductor's score), there is no real purpose to multiple instances of the volta - because the volta information appears automatically on each of the separate instrument parts.

"Then, when playing the score, it doesn't play the bar in question, it will just skip to the next bar."
Not on my version of MS 4.0, which works fine with voltas. You do need an "end repeat" barline at the end of Volta 1.

[EDIT] Example MS 4.0 score with working voltas is attached

In the case of piano trio for instance, the pianist prefers to see the volta above their own staff. So sometimes it is preferable to be able to add them for different staves. In the version I had at the time I started this piece, which was a few years ago (not sure, probably 2020), musescore did so without a problem, but now that I transferred the file into musescore 4 so that I continue with a few variations, I can no longer place the volta lines in the same way as before. That's a bit iffy.
Besides, the file is now corrupt. When I open it nevertheless (ignoring the corrupt data in it) it doesn't play the 1st volta, and skips ahead to the 2nd volta, even though I have placed an end repeat barline.

"Besides, the file is now corrupt."
See another recent thread which discusses corruption in MS 4.0, how to export from MS4 to MusicXML and how to repair the score in MS3:

"When I open it nevertheless (ignoring the corrupt data in it) it doesn't play the 1st volta, and skips ahead to the 2nd volta"
Difficult to advise unless you attach sample score with this fault. By "score" I mean the .mscz file itself.
