Bar numbers /split a movement in seperate movements

• Jan 23, 2023 - 15:15

I am new in this forum, so I might just haven`t found the right topic.
I have transposed quite a long part including ornaments, grace notes .
The work consists of say 10 movements.
--The fountain edition used by the other musicians has a different bar numbers.
MuseScore counts from 0 to the end. The printed edition starts a new counting
after almost every change of tempo or measure type.
- My transposition edition is going "straight forward", I didn´t seperate the movements.
I would like to do this now, but did not find a function to do so, or even to copy-paste into a new started document. Is there some advice for me . THX a lot...

Two possibilities.

1) Simplest is to add a section break where you want the numbering to restart. New sections start with bar number 1 by default. This will also force the next bar onto a new system which may be not what you want.

Or

2) Slightly more complicated as some arithmetic is involved: select the bar where you want the numbering to restart and note it's current number. Right click in the bar and in bar properties set the the "Add to bar number" value to - (current bar number - 1). So, for example if you want to reset the current bar number 17 to be bar number 1 enter -16 into the "Add to bar number" box.

(For "bar" read "measure" in US usage)
