Well yeah. You've missed giving anyone trying to help, any information about your system. What version of MuseScore. How you are trying to enter notes.And what exactly happens.

How are you trying to enter notes? Have you got a basic score with staves ready to go?
There are several ways -
1. Note input mode - type N and then a letter.
2. Point and click with a pointing device, such as a mouse or trackpad.
3. Copy and paste.
4. Using a Midi keyboard.
5. maybe others not listed here ....
