In any time signature with more than 4 crotchets in a bar, if you put a semibreve rest anywhere in the bar, it puts a rest hanging from the middle line. But this type of rest means a full bar's rest regardless of the time signature. It does not mean four crotchets rest.
See attached file. I've tried in 3/2, 5/4 and 6/4 time signatures. The hanging rest appears at the beginning, end, and in the middle of bars. The software thinks that this means 4 crotchets, and it doesn't. The empty bars from bar 8 - created by default when I created the file - correctly have the same symbol to mean a whole bar's rest, even though the bar is five crotchets in length.
