MU4 - problems with third party plugins

• Feb 22, 2023 - 18:57

OK - first - I realise that there's a GitHub way to report problems, but I don't know how to do that, so for me it's quicker to post here. Maybe later I'll find a way to get GitHub to work for me.

I have been testing MuseScore 4 recently, and found that I can install plugins for libraries, and also some effects. Besides MuseFX I can also install other effects such as SurgeFX and the Klanghelm DC1A3 compressor. I also have had several third party synthesisers working, such as Surge, Dexed etc.

I also tried the Waves stereo headphone surround sound mix plugin, but apart from the Head Tracker - which worked - it didn't otherwise function. When I tried that in Logic it worked much better - almost as I expected.

The most recent test has been for Melda Production's plugin MCompressor - which I suspect is very good. I have tested that in Logic, but in MuseScore 4 it locks up the interface and the MuseScore program has to be forcibly shut down. In Logic I think that does work slightly better than the Klanghelm compressor - but it doesn't work at all in MuseScore.

You can find the relevant MCompressor plugin here - https://www.meldaproduction.com/

This may not be something you want to deal with right now, but I thought it worth a mention.

The MuseScore project on GitHub is at https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore. To open an issue, simply click "Issues", then "New issue", then "Get started" next to "Development issue". The developers don't generally read posts here in the community discussion forums, so if you'd like someone to investigate, you'll need to open an issue on GitHub, and provide precise steps to reproduce the problem.
