Is it possible to make brass volumes more... balanced?

• Mar 12, 2023 - 01:06

A great thing about Musesounds is the variety in dynamics that just isn't there in Musescore 3. But... in my opinion, the brass (especially things like french horns) somewhat suffer due to this. I get that these instruments sound different when played louder, but I feel like mp shouldn't be almost inaudible when I can't turn it up in the mixer without forte blasting my ears out. Is there a way to edit the volumes of individual dynamics to get around this, or is this simply something I have to work around?

That was a slight exaggeration on my part, but I mean for example in this file where the horns are very audible at the beginning, even when untouched in the mixer, but during the piano and mezzo forte bits are substantially quieter. Even though I have most of the other instruments turned up, considering how loud they are on forte I think it's a little odd how quiet they are otherwise.

Good to hear it's a possibility that we might be able to edit them individually in the future, though. Thanks.

Some observations:
1. When I listen to just the horns, I hear f at the beginning followed by p and then mf. All sounds proper. But when I listen to all the instruments, it does seem different. Why?

  1. Because you have everything panned center. Everyone is sitting on top of each other. Spread them out like they are on stage. Things will sound better. As it is, frequencies are canceling each other out.
