Crash on certain template use (Musescore 4.0.2)

• Apr 3, 2023 - 23:28

I created a template that has bass plus linked tablature. It works fine as is. But after modified it by editing the footer text to show a "Last revised" date and time and eliminating the $C copyright variable, when I try to create a new score based on that template, Musescore 4 now crashes every time (it closes suddenly and tries to send a crash report to Microsoft.) Using my backup unmodified copy, it still works as it should, no crash. It behaves this way on two different computers, one running Windows 10, the other Windows 11.

I made a similar template for MS3 and it always worked reliably. This new template was created from scratch for MS4.

Has anyone else noticed this? Can anyone else reproduce it? Is this a known bug?

P.S. - I can alter the footer style for a score and nothing bad happens. I can alter and save the template and nothing bad happens. It's only when I create a new score based on that altered template that the crash happens.

P.P.S. - It happens on all templates that are altered in this way, to add my "Last revised" footer field. Not just the bass one that I mentioned above.

P.P.P.S - The template in question is attached below.

[later edit...] - More data points. This can be reproduced reliably in THREE different computers. Also, if I go back and edit the "Last revised" footer fields out of the template, the template can then be used like normal.
