Double Segno / Coda?

• Sep 28, 2014 - 13:20

Can I create (working) double segnos / codas, and if so how? E.g. play though to D.S. al Coda, jump back to single segno, play up to single coda sign and jump to single coda ending then play up to D.S.S. al Coda, jump back to double segno and play up to double coda then finally jump to double coda ending?
While I can add multiple segnos or coda signs to mark points and endings there doesn't seem to be a corresponding D.S.S. anywhere to mark the jumps? I'm trying to avoid copying and pasting measures if I can help it, and I've seen a screenshot of other scoring software (GM?) that has this facility - is it possible in MuseScore?
Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find any help searching.

Thanks for the replies - Voltas aren't really suitable as the piece repeats parts from the middle, however by modifying Jump Properties (and Marker Properties) in version 1.3 I managed to get the required effect - thx! (The manual mentions these in passing but gives no examples).
Unfortunately I can't find either of these in version 2.0 beta which is what I've been using; right-clicking a jump or marker only has the option to change the style or set Text Properties, and that dialog doesn't seem to be the one I want. (Where) Are these features in 2.0? I don't want to lose my variable swing and fretboard diagrams etc!

So I got this working in 1.3 using jump and marker properties and found the same settings in the Inspector in 2.0, however these settings seem to have no effect? I've repeated the same steps that worked in 1.3 in version 2.0 beta but the second DS is ignored. I've also noticed that changing the label of a marker causes the marker type to change to user defined (e.g. change Segno label from 'segno' to 'segno2') and upon revisiting that element the marker type sometimes shows User Defined instead of e.g. Segno - the same applies to To Coda and Coda. Not sure if that's relevant as 1.3 doesn't have user defined markers, but if I set the jump properties to jump to a marker labelled 'segno2' then it should jump regardless of marker type? (Assuming there's a marker with that label in the score?)
Simple example score attached.
Am I doing something silly or is this a bug?
ps - I'd also love repeats to work after jumps but that's already a feature request I think...

I had the same intention, and also found that only the first D.S. al coda works.
I tested it with variations of your jump-test, and found that you can have a working D.S. al coda, and as soon as you add another D.S. (or D.S. al coda, even with different marker tags) before it, only the first one will work. Once you remove that one, the other one will work again. Try it out with my jump test variation!

I'm not sure whether that is a bug or wanted?
I would think it's a bug.

BTW, I made sure that the marker type is the same as in the working coda, just the marker name is different. But that didn't make it work either, once there is a second D.S, al coda before it.

I cannot get D.S. al Coda/To Coda/To Fine to work in 2.0b1.

I've tried various ways and flailed around, all to no avail.

Here's what I currently have. It doesn't work. At the bar-repetition mark, the piece correctly plays again from the beginning, but at the segno symbol there is no jump. The two measures between the segno and the coda symbol play again.

Also, I noticed in the Inspector that the segno symbol's label is "segnob," not "segno." I am not sure if that is an error. I tried changing it, but the change had no effect on my problem.

Thanks, Marc. OK, I agree I was confused about how to use the marks. But it still doesn't work even when I use "To Coda."

Attached is a short test score.

I want it to play: C D E B C D E F F F G F
It plays: C D E B C D E B F F F G F

Follow-up edit: I can get it to work if I use the "D.C." notation instead of, or even in addition to, the bar line with end-repeat mark as in the attachment. That limitation does not seem right to me, but if I'm wrong again, I'm sure you'll tell me. ;-)

I'm not understanding your score. By definition, "To Coda" only works after a DC or DS. Otherwise, the part after the "To Coda" would never get played at all. That's not a limitation of MuseScore, that's just how music notation works.

I find d.c. Followed by d.c. Al fine also not working Example:
Measure 5 has Fine.Measure 10 has d.c. Measure 15 has d.c. Al fine. Measure 15is end of piece.
It starts from 1 to 10, returns to 1, runs to 15 and then quits I would expect It to go from d.c. Al fine back to 1 and run to 15, which It doesn't.

I've seen the same behavior with D.C. When doing a D.C. al Fine after a D.C., it just stops at the D.C. al Fine.
Example:
measure 5 has Fine, measure 10 has D.C., measure 15 has D.C. all fine and is the last measure.
when playing, it plays the first D.C., and then just stops at measure 15, without going back to measure 1 and running to measure 5. This is not dependent on which barlines are chosen.
