Automatic creation of save file when creating a new score

• Apr 10, 2023 - 16:50

I just ran into the same exact problem as this user: https://www.reddit.com/r/Musescore/comments/zube8h/how_to_find_musescor…

Like him, I did about an hour of work, thinking it would be auto-saved the whole time, and then the program crashed. Since I'd never saved it even once, I lost everything. I'm a novice user, so I had incorrect assumptions about how it worked.

Marc Sabatella's comment was true-- it's easy enough to develop a habit of hitting CTRL-S every time you enter a new score. But everyone is human, and mistakes will be made. My request is to make the initial save an automatic part of the initial score setup; by finishing the setup process, the score is automatically saved for the first time with a generic name like "SCORE001" which gets automatically renamed the first time the User ever initiates an intentional Save.

The 3 rules when using computers

  1. Create backups at regular intervals
  2. Create backups at regular intervals
  3. Create backups at regular intervals

Creating an explicit file on the users system would, I think, be counter to most UI guidelines. So I doubt most designers or users would consider that an acceptable thing to do. But, it would be useful if the autosave for such never-saved files was unique for sessions. Feel free to open an issue on GitHub requesting that.
