Dynamics in 4 staff choral arrangement

• Apr 27, 2023 - 00:18

Hello,

I am a new user and have not yet had the opportunity to pour through all the documentation. I'm just trying to complete my first small arrangement to have my choir at church sing, and everything has been great until now. I'm trying to add dynamics and they look very odd where they are being placed.

I want to put them either under the lyrics or above the staff of each part, but I can't figure out how, if possible, and many of the search result return old information. Nothing I do looks anything like the choral music I've been singing all my life.

Why can't I drag the dynamics where I want them?

If you are using MU4.
Select "Format" in the Menu bar. Then "Style". Scroll down to Dynamics. Change Below to above.
Dragging in MuseScore is dangerous.

I concur with @bobjp about dragging. I've found more reliable dynamics PLAYBACK when the hairpins are placed as follows: 1) helps if the dynamics (pp, mp, mf, ff) are placed first. 2) select "one end" of the span of notes where a hairpin will be placed. 3) hold 'shift' key & click on the "other end" of the span, its note. 4) go to the 'Lines' palette, select the hairpin desired. 5) it's likely the hairpin will show longer than the span desired. in that case, select the hairpin itself so it's highlighed. 6) (I think it is) press "shift + up-arrow" on the keyboard. The hairpin should nestle itself between the span of the notes. I'm commenting based on memory, as I'm not on my Mu program computer. Hope this helps.
