changing from eighth note triplets to quarter note triplets
I can't put in quarter note triplets after eight note ones. Even though I have quarter note selected, as soon as I select triplets it jumps to eighth note value.

A triplet of quarter notes takes up the time of a half note. So you can only convert a half note into three quarter triplets.
