shortcuts to palette items?
Is there a way to be able to assign your own keyboard shortcuts to specific palette items, including palette items you may have created yourself?

Not currently; only the commands that are designed to allow shortcuts (in Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts) do. It's something that is on the roadmap to hopefully support someday.
