Broken sound
Jackson1828 (https://musescore.com/user/65137327) sent a message: I have been going nuts with the playback being all staticky slow and out of sync. I reset to the original settings, erased everything I had, and did a new score. It sounded fine while I was working on it. Then I closed it and saved it to cloud and when I reopened it and hit playback it sounded like crap. I have spent hours reading every help center topic and gotten nowhere. Is a human being available to find out what is going on or do I just give up and try and find another company? This really is aggravating.

Unfortunately, these things did not work. I do not have a speaker icon on my Musescore taskbar. I did open the computer music icon and upgraded the speakers. It did not help. Everything else I did.
I got frustrated and deleted my old free account and upgraded. My file was emptied. As I was composing the new score the sound was fine. I closed it and when I opened it the next day it sounded awful as before. As I open and close and reopen the file there is a varying degree of static and echoing and bad quality but there is always static and some of the notes are not played correctly. Any help would be appreciated. It took a long time to learn this program and I don't want to have to learn another. Thank you!!!

What file was emptied?
Do you mean your old MuseScore 3 scores? They should still be available in a MuseScore 3 folder.

MuseScore 4 is going through "growing pains" as it is a release of a new "major version" (from MS3 to MS4) and these forums are cluttered with sound issues, missing functions, corruptions/loss of files...

So, if you wish to forgo a lot of your frustration, consider continuing with Musecore version 3 - at least until all the MS4 dust settles. This way, with MS3, you remain in familiar territory and won't have to deal with all the "new" problems.
BTW: The Musescore taskbar does not have a speaker icon. That link I posted above about fixing sound issues was referring to OS (operating system) controls.

I guess I should correct that to say Desktop taskbar. Not MuseScore taskbar.
A better way to get to those sound settings is from Control Panel. Especially in W11. Works in 10 also
In the desktop taskbar search window, type "con". Select Control Panel. Then select the speaker icon labled Sound.
And, of course, you need a computer that is close to the minimum specs. More is better.

Don't worry. It doesn't say "MuseScore taskbar".
It says: "Right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar."
"Taskbar" is not part of MuseScore, although it may share the screen with MS if not auto hidden via taskbar settings (OS related, and perhaps Windows specific).

That's why sticking with MS3 for now is good for those who don't wish to be bothered with all the technical jargon.

If it sounded fine at one point then didn't sound good later, the question is, what changed on your systems? Most common cause of playback problems in MU4 is audio device settings - many systems do best with the sample rate set to 44.1, for example.
Note that while you mention something about an "account", there is no such thing for MuseScore. There is for the commercial score-sharing website musescore.com, but that has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the behavior of MuseScore itself.

Thank you. What I mean by account is I had 3.0 free download and deleted it. I upgraded to 4.0. and paid for the upload. None of the 3.0 songs I uploaded onto 4.0 worked right. I assumed this was the problem. I deleted all songs on 4.0. I opened a new score and proceeded to fill in notes and they sounded fine. WHen I closed the file and reopened it later it reverted to sounding like crap again. That is the problem. My computer is fine.

I had Musescore 3 free download. I deleted it and got Musescore4 free download. Thats when my problems began. I paid the 39$ monthly for the upgrade. I was hoping this would fix it. It didn't.

There is no paid version of MuseScore - it's always 100% free, no way to pay for it even if you wanted to. I guess probably you instead signed up for a subscription to the commercial score-sharing platform musescore.com, but that has no bearing whatsoever on the behavior of MuseScore itself.
Anyhow, as mentioned, if it was sounding good before and suddenly doesn't, the obvious question to answer is, what changed - new hardware, new device driver update, new OS update, changed settings on your compute, etc.

I downloaded Musesore 3 and it works fine. It's clearly a musescore4 issue. I did reset it to the original settings, but nothing. Thanks for the input.

If it is any consolation, I am have the same problem. I make all of the recommended adjustments, the sound is working fine, then I save my file and exit 4.0. The next time I bring up 4.0 and open the file, the sound is "skipping".
BTW, having worked in software implementations for 42 years (both as "customer" and vendor), reverting to the previous release for a basic function that worked in the previous release is not an acceptable solution.

4.0 or 4.02? 4.02 has some things fixed.
The thing is that MU3 and MU4 are very different programs. Because they are open source, they are always works in progress. Some people like things in MU3 that don't work yet in MU4. It isn't necessarily reverting as much as it is using the one that fits your needs. I don't have any use for MU3, so I haven't loaded it onto my new computer. But that's just me. I haven't had a crash or a corrupted score. Even on my old computer. It would be nice to figure what it is that is causing all these problems.
