format/style

trying to format a chart/score away from the default, tried the usual Ctrl + A and it high;ights everything, got to 'format', choose the style i want, i can see it's changed it, but when i click on the score again it defaults to the original.
what am i not doing, or doing wrong?

Click Apply or OK after selecting the style you want perhaps?

funnily enough i fixed it mere moments after posting, me being king of the luddites i hadn't checked the bottom of the 'page'. as my MS4 was a new install and this was the fist tme i'd used it i needed to format some of the layout before formatting the chart, and the 'apply' or 'ok' buttons were off the bottom of my screen.
honestly, i'm not safe out on my own. but thank you for getting back to me, maybe i should stick to pencil & paper in future...
