Showing hidden staves

A while ago I borrowed a technique from a kind contributor to this forum which consisted of inserting a "show me" bar into a score which enabled the bar in question always to show no matter whether "Hide empty bars" was selected or not.
This works very well, though I can't remember how! The "show me" element is actually some sort of stave text.
What I would like to do is, instead of having a go-to score which contains a "show me" bar which I can then open and copy and paste from, is a text entry procedure which would just involve adding the text element which has cleverly embedded into it this facility. Is this possible?
