Disable what MuseScore does automatically

• Jul 6, 2023 - 20:33

I mainly work with mouse input, so my score are always zoomed in a lot. The automatic camera movement every few bars is very irritating and confusing, even more when it goes to a different page.
Instrument changes automatically edit the instrument's properties (range, name, clef etc.).

These are probably non-issues for most users, but if you're working with specific instruments you need to manually set up, and change your mind often, it can be a massive pain to have to redo it each time. Especially clefs. There should be an opt-out for any automatic thing MS does.

Here's an idea :

I'm not sure I understand, but if you mean you prefer MuseScore to not do what most programs do and shirt the document to show the part you are working on, you can indeed disable that - click the gear icon on the playback toolbar and disable "pan score automatically". But I suspect that's not what mean; I'm not understanding how that relates to instruments or clefs. So please explain in more detail.

It's not related, it's a separate instance of Musescore doing things without the user asking it;
When changing an instrument (through the instruments panel), the instrument properties like name, range and clef automatically change. This is very inconvenient when using instruments or clefs outside of the standard, because then the properties and clefs will have to be entered in manually each time. (then why change instrument ? 1. Because this is currently the only way for the mixer to choose that instrument from a soundfont, 2. Because not doing it that way feels wrong and like something is missing)
I think custom instrument presets would be very convenient (if they aren't already a thing), I'm tired of manually inputting C2 to C6 when I'm writing for organ.

PS : in the playback toolbar ? isn't that a strange place to put a scroll setting that also affects the note input mode ?

If it's not related best to start a new thread, and in it explain in greater detail what you are asking. It's still not clear - sounds like maybe you are changing instrument when you really mean to only change the playback sound? - but since it's not related, this isn't the place to discuss it.

And for the record, the pan score button started off affecting playback only but was only enhanced to also affect note input later, and the button just never moved. Definitely room for improvement there. Feel free to open an issue requesting that specifically on GitHub (keep the report limited to that only; keep other discussion here in the forum until a consensus is reached).
