Delete Parts (not instruments) in MS 4

• Aug 18, 2023 - 15:28

Hi,

I have read through the forums surrounding Deleting parts in MS4 already and have not found a solution to my problem. I have students who are learning MS4 and they have generated duplicate parts, all of which do not have a delete function that we can find. Along with duplicate parts, they generated out of score order in the tabs at the top and making finding and printing individual parts more difficult. This is most likely due to the students adjusting instrumentation after generating parts. Instead of selecting to generate for one instrument they are generating all parts repeatedly, hence the duplicate parts. In MS3, I could delete parts and click tabs and drag them into the order which I desired, but I can't seem to be able to do that in MS4.

For clarification, we are not trying to delete instruments. We want to preserve the score and instruments with the musical content they contain. The parts tab (found at the top center of the UI) seems to be the issue. When the window pops up, the duplicate parts are present and there is no way to remove them. The "3 dots" menu function beside each part contains the following settings: Duplicate, Rename, Reset. No amount of troubleshooting and research I have done thus far has yielded me the ability to delete the parts or move the tabs into score order along the top. Is this an error from the developers? Am I overlooking something?

Thanks for any help!

Are the duplicate parts only in the parts list? Or in the score. What I see in my system is that a duplicate part in the list is marked "copy", and can be deleted in the 3 dot list. As for parts being generated out of order, I think it is based on the order in the score. Close each part in the main score window by clicking on the "x". Hit "I" and make sure the instruments are in the order you want. As you know, you can select an instrument on the right and move it up or down. Regenerated parts should then be in the order based on the score.
As an aside, I'm not sure working with parts at this stage is helpful. Not everything translates properly all the time back and forth. But, that's me.

If You could attach sample score, It would be easier to assist.

Generally, in duplicated parts, on of them is "Generic" which have no "delete" option and other(s) are copies, and those should have "delete" option.
May be try second clarinet, if it has no "delete" option (if there is only single clarinet in score).

There should be some progress on parts in latest nightlies, an it will also be included in next official release (4.2), as far, as I know.

This works. Then when I open the mscx file, the score is the same. Open Parts and the extra parts are gone. But the parts are re-ordered and renamed. However, if I delete the extra parts from the Excerpts folder, then open the mscx file, the extra parts are gone and the original part names are retained.
