All drum stems direction up

• Sep 10, 2023 - 09:01

Hi,

This is my first post in the forum as I can't find a post with this question/problem. This awesome post https://musescore.org/en/node/320941#comment-1207248 is exactly what I want to achieve. There is a need for different kind of drum notation depending on what drumming approach it is.

I've recorded midi drums in Reaper with my electronic drum kit. Quantized everything and exported the midi file. Then imported the midi file in MuseScore 4. I use Toontrack Superior Drummer 3 and I have a big kit.

In Drum Edit I've edited my custom drum kit. But I can't get some notes (No. 36 c2 - kick drum & No. 42 g2 - floor tom) to belong to voice 1 and have the stem direction Up even if I have that chosen in the Drum Edit. The notes end up in voice 2 and have the stem direction down no matter what.

I've attached files for my midi file, two different files for my custom set saved in Edit Drumset and the MuseScore file. The different drum set files are one with my full set (Eget trumset - Reaper midi mapping) with kick drum stem down voice 2 and floor tom stem up voice 1, one smaller (Eget trumset - Reaper midi mapping - stems up) with all drum stems up and all voice 1, where I first removed all drums by removing the name of all the drums so I had a blank version and then added some drums, but that didn't help.

It feels like there are some default features (stem direction and voice) for 36 c2 and 42 g2 that I can't write over.

Very thankful for any help!

Update/clarification:

I only have this problem when I import a midi file. When I input notes with the note input it looks like expected. In the attached screen shot first bar in imported midi file and the second bar is done with note input.

Yes, in a way that is what I'm expecting. When I open my midi file the drm file is not applied directly. But if I save the score and close it and then the next time I open the score (mscz file) the drm file is applied to all notes except for the kick drum and floor tom still being in voice 2. So the drm file kind of works as a filter on the midi file.

I found this post: https://musescore.org/en/node/320489
Even if MuseScore think that the kick belongs to voice 2 (feet) the floor tom does not belong to that voice.
