Playback too slow... not lag, but actual play speed.

• Sep 15, 2023 - 09:27

I had a problem with playback sounding awful. Crackly, horrible sounds, and laggy mangled tempos. THIS IS NOT THAT PROBLEM. I fixed that by going through my native sound card instead of my external device (focusrite)

Now my playback is smooth and clear and sounds good, but it plays at a little less than 1/4 speed. The tempo is set to quarter note = 120, but it takes maybe 8 seconds to play through a whole 4/4 bar. This is not lag or poor performance based. I can set the tempo to quarter=480 and get it to play almost as it should sound like. I've attached the score just in case there's something in there I'm missing. I also recorded a video (no sound, just take my word that it sounded great and played in time with the player bar) but I can't upload that, so here's a link: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/871784103391940709/1152157130326…

My shitty laptop with 4GB of ram has no problems in musescore 4, but my beefy gaming PC with more ram than I've ever been able to use has had nothing but trouble.

I have tried changing the soundfont a few times, since I was trying to use that to fix other problems earlier, and I've tried using different buffer sizes in the I/O options, with no effect on this.

My laptop. i7, 16GBram, SSD. Plays your file fine. You are correct. It isn't a resource problem. It is a settings problem. You demonstrated that by disconnecting your Focusrite. Aside from the buffer size, you may need to lower the Bit rate in your device advanced settings ( more than you might think) while you are there, turn off Exclusive mode.
You should be able to get your Focusrite to work, too.
it's a matter of matching your computer to the software.
