Q2 how to install and use sound fonts mu4.1

• Sep 23, 2023 - 21:43

Chromebook/Linux i5 8gig

I have downloaded a sound font and wish to try the sounds. It appears to be there, but with new mixer I am unable to figure where the sounds are. They do not show up for each instrument, just the name of the font. (In Mu3 I was able to make most sounds function correctly) The sound font I downloaded shows up, but no choice for selecting any particular instrument sound.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

As yet there isn't a way to do that. How many instruments in this font? If not very many, you could export each one as a separate font using Polyphone. Then place them in the font folder in MuseScore.

If the soundfont follows the General MIDI standard, you don't need to do anything special - just select it, and the standard already tells MuseScore how to find the correct sound within the file. If the soudnfont is non-standard, for now you'll need to find a version of it where the sounds are in separate files. In 4.2, you'll be able to select sounds directly from within non-standard monolithic soundfonts.
