Hiding part in score when there are notes

• Dec 13, 2023 - 19:45

I'm currently engraving a chart for big band where each section is playing in unison. For my score, I would like to only see only the lead horn in each section. Is it possible to hide instruments that are still playing?

I could start a second file that is just to edit the score, without any parts, and make the staves empty. I'm curious if it's possible to hide them without doing that.

You can achieve what you need with these steps:
1. Click the Parts button above the score
2. Choose "Create new part"
3. Still in the Parts dialogue, find the newly-created part (named "Part") and click its . . . "3-dots" menu on the right
4. Choose "Rename" to rename "Part" to "Lead Instruments" or something similar
5. Close the Parts dialogue and go to the Instruments panel - shortcut F7 if not already visible
6. In the Instruments panel for your new Part, open the "Eye" icon for every lead instrument you need to see in this special Part version

Or....
In the "Instrument" tab (F7), select the arrow next to the EYE of the first instrument you want to hear but not see. Another EYE appears below the first. Close that eye and the part disappears from the score, but you will still hear it in playback.
Do that for each instrument you want to hear, but not see in the score.
