Problems with Muse Sounds Playback

• Jan 16, 2024 - 22:15

I've been having serious trouble with getting Muse Sounds to work properly, especially with the audio mix. A couple of major problems I'm having is Muse Sounds stuttering (the actual samples) and struggling to keep up with a tremolo obstinate on the strings at a not so fast speed for 215 BPM (Quarter note ostinatos).

Also, the Brass samples mixing is way off and inaudible even at Forte with crescendo to Fortissimo. The Mixer Panel is only doing so much and is very hard to work with the audio library. The Choir, Brass, and Strings mixes (and the odd string ostinatos) are very weird to work with...

Anyone have the same problem or know how to fix it?

Check the specs needed to run MU4 that are listed on the download page. Also there is a "How To.." in the support section that deal with some audio settings that might need attention.

Strings.
Solo and Section 1 and 2 do not refer to desks. 1 is supposed to be more expressive than 2. Don't use 1.

Choir and some brass tend to be very quiet. Boost their faders in the mixer. That's what the faders are for.

And pan your scores to make them sound more realistic.

Thanks for the response, bobjp. Currently running MS4 on 16GB M1 Mac, don’t have any issues with the workload on the computer. As for working the faders, it’s still incredibly awkward to work with, choir and brass still don’t shine through like they’re supposed to (especially with dynamic transitions). Hoping this gets patched in the new update.

Even tried drowning out the strings a little bit to fix it… 😕

Please post a score highlighting these problems.
Make sure to pan your score like instruments would be on stage. Not sure what you mean by "awkward". Working with recorded sounds is not like real players. What is "drowning out the strings"?
Stuttering is a problem with an audio setting on your system.

Sorry it took a few days, didn't have an opportunity to get back to this as quickly as I would have liked. This is the link to the score: https://musescore.com/user/34196469/scores/14103838/s/T6lToe?share=copy…

All done through MuseScore, I was able to handle the awkward dynamics with the Compressor plugin, did help a lot. But I'm still having problems with the Ostnati from the strings. The score is a far from finished, part of a series called VGM Classics for Symphony (Vol. I) I'm working on.

OK, I downloaded and listened to your score on my system. I believe that I could hear everything. No problem with the ostinato or brass and choir. No studder.
My system is W11. 10 core cpu, 16 GB ram, SSD. Windows allows Audio system changes that IOs does not. If you are using an external audio device, try running without it.
I haven't done it with this score, but don't forget to pan this score. Make sure that in MU4 the buffer is set to 4096 and that your audio device is selected (headphones or speakers). These setting are found in Edit>Preferences>I/O.

I normally handle mixing after I finish composing, but I did the mix and pan beforehand now to help with troubleshooting. I updated the score upload with the current mix, and also a few extra measures I worked on in addition to finishing some work in the earlier measures [This is the new link: https://musescore.com/user/34196469/scores/14118397/s/nYfeS1?share=copy…]. I checked my Buffer settings, and it's stuck at 1024. I have no other option to switch to for some reason. I'm running an M1 Mac mini 1TB 16GB RAM. I remember I used to have it set to a higher setting a long time ago, not sure why it changed and I have no other option. I have no other programs running in the background eating RAM up either...
