Removing a time signature on one bar only
I am stumped- I have a mass that downloaded as one continuous movement, and I need to break it up into the various parts (Gloria, Agnus Dei, etc.) and I have a spot where there are two 8th note pickups , and the score shows a 1/4 time signature for that one beat, correctly followed by 4/4 in the next bar. As this mass movement is starting on a new line, I just want it to look like any normal pickup bar, but can't figure out how to remove that 1/4 time signature without making all time signatures invisible . There's got to be a simple way to do this. Thanks for your help!!

You should be able to select the 1/4 time signature and use keyboard shortcut V to make it invisible. But that may not be the best solution. If you attach the score here (the .mscz file) so that we can see how your score is set up someone can probably suggest a better way to achieve what you want.

Ha! I studied and studied the section in the handbook on time signatures and never found the simple
"V" solution. That works well enough, I think. Thank you for the tip!
If you want a pickup measure you don't need. 1/4 time sign at all. Just let it be 4/4 and shorten the first measure via it's properties (and exclude it from measure count there too)

That's a good idea if I can figure that out. Thanks

Right click in the 1/4 measure and set its nominal duration to 4/4 with its actual duration to 1/4. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/measure-properties and in particular https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/measure-properties#measure-duration

That's a good workaround- works. Thanks. There is a lot hidden here, if one knows where to look.

It's not a workaround, it's a solution to your problem.
