Guitar Capo Chord Symbol Editing

• May 8, 2024 - 02:27

I know that in Format > Style > Chord Symbols you can tick the box to set up "Capo Fret Position" chord symbols which will put a second chord symbol in parentheses right next to the originals for guitar players. Is there a way to edit the space between the two chord symbols? Or move one on top of the other? Right now every chord symbol reads something like this: Bbsus4(Asus4) or Cm(Bm) - it's all very close together and slightly confusing to read. Would love to put the symbol in parenthesis above the original chord, or at the very least add some space between the two symbols. Is that feature available?

It's probably not confusing for those familiar with the musescore software and how it spits this information out. And...I have several colleagues who have said it's confusing for them because the whole thing looks like a single entity. Other notation software has the ability to put secondary chord symbols above the originals which makes the whole thing easier to read in tempo. But even the ability to add space before the parenthesis would make it easier for the eye to mark distinction and faster to parse while reading in the moment. The capo chord shortcut is incredible for saving time and not having to write an entire new row of chord symbols (which I've done in the past). And some visual flexibility to make it easier to read at tempo would be a great feature to add.

Well, from experience, this feature has been present since V2 from memory (about ten years ago), and I don't recall anyone being bothered by it.
But if it's important to you, as I said above, feel free to file a feature request on Github. It's the only "official" place to do it, the forum isn't enough. And above all, don't wait for someone else to do it for you - you'll be disappointed. You have to be the actor of your request. Good luck.
