Desktop pdf export from Musescore fine, Uploaded version errors

• Aug 29, 2024 - 19:39

I've engraved some organ music using Musescore. 90% but I want to use some extended pedalling markings using a local font I created (works fine in other apps.). Desktop musescore is fine with it and creates the correct PDF however When I upload the Musescore file obviously the Online Musescore upload engine does not have it so substitutes incorrectly. Is there a workaround? Such as can I submit both the mscz and locally created pdf files separately. Here is a composite screenshot of the various results.

Fonts are not included along with MuseScore files, so you're right that musescore.com won't have access to it. Another user would have the same issue if they opened the file in MuseScore but didn't have the font installed. There's no real way around this unfortunately, but I do wish that (in both those cases) the software would at least give you some kind of warning so that it was less of an unpleasant surprise.

I'm assuming you created the pedalling font as a basic text font (the substitution suggests so). If you were to create it as a SMuFL font instead using the relevant organ pedal codepoints (see https://w3c.github.io/smufl/latest/tables/keyboard-techniques.html) - if they are sufficient for what you need, which I suspect they might not be - then I'd assume, or at least hope, that on musescore.com it would fall back to using Bravura or Leland. That would be something of a pain, though.
