Selecting areas to loop and learn in a score on an iPad using the app downloaded from the Apple App Store.

I just got a subscription to the Musescore app for iPad from the App Store. I loaded in a sheet score from Muscore.com into my favorites with no issue it plays fine but I can’t select any more to loop than one bar of music. I can’t drag the selection area to include enough for me to loop so I can learn. Do I need an Apple Pencil to work on dragging the selection area? I bought this program so I can learn songs and music notation. Thank you for your time.
