SVG export: polylines have zero width

• Oct 25, 2024 - 08:44

When exporting a newly created score to SVG the polyline elements (stafflines, barlines & stems) all have zero width when I look at them in Inkscape. Effectively invisible & difficult to recover since you’re not sure what e.g. polyline389 is or what size it should be.

The initial size is also so small in relation to the document/page that everything is invisible until you select all and resize.

Does anyone else use SVG export? Is this a known bug?

Manjaro + Cinnamon Desktop + Musescore 4.4.2 (Flatpak) — the only 4.4 I can run. The 4.4.3 AppImage immediately crashes whenever it tries to open a file dialog, so Export… kills it. It doesn’t give any helpful messages either, just ‘memory dumped’.

I’ve mostly used distro packages (currently 4.3.2) and Musescore has worked fine, but I’ve never had much luck with the AppImage though. Disconcerting that the

I tried running 4.3.2 again and noticed that the file paths have been corrupted somehow, e.g. ‘Documents’ should be ‘Cáipéisí’ but appears as ‘CáipéisÒ in the path for Scores (but not in any of the others). The SoundFonts path is also corrupted.

It seems that rather than warning me that these paths do not exist, MS has been creating them! I think I last saw that with Windows programs creating differently wrong encodings of my user folder just because it had an accent in it.

MS 4.3.2 also sometimes doesn’t start now, with “Incompatible MuseSampler library”

I’d hoped that fixing these paths might fix the AppImage, but it still crashes when I click on Export… It gives a different error though:

When I start earlier (< 4.4) AppImage versions the path problem seems to come back, but if I correct it I can Export files and the SVGs look right in Inkscape, but not with 4.4.2. The latest AppImage crashes on accessing the file system. Shouldn’t they all be using the same config files (in ~/.config)?
