Change Mixer Channel/Track name

• Oct 29, 2024 - 08:33

I understand it's a known bug but it's quite annoying.

If at the moment it's a problem to see the "new instrument name" reflected to the mixer channel/track, at least it wouldn't be bad to have the possibility to manually change the mixer channel/track name.

ie. Now I change "5 str. Electric Bass" to "El.Bass" and on mixer I see "5 str. electi…"

It's an unfortunate regression in Mu4 that you can't control the Mixer instrument captions from the Stave/Part Properties screen.

In Mu3 you could change the Part name in Stave/Part Properties, without changing the actual Instrument with the Change Instrument button. This change of part name would then be reflected in the Mixer caption for that instrument.

Perhaps MuseScore is just trying to be accurate. Technically, "5 str. electric Bass" and "Electric Bass" are two different instruments. Let's say I've written a part for 5 string bass. It's labeled "Electric Bass". A person with a 4 string can't play the lower notes. I know you are just talking about the being able to change the mixer label. But still.

If the song require a 5 string bass, I'm sure it'll be written on the part score :-)

Having said that, because MS can't show on mixer "5 str. electric Bass", it would be easier for me to read within a busy mixer "El.Bs" instead the cropped version of a long-name-instrument. And apparently it's not possible.
