half note plays like two quarter notes

This is really annoying. In first measure two half notes play like two quarter notes each. Then the last measure with a whole note plays like two half notes.

I tried deleting the measure and putting in a new one; didn't work. Also copied another measure and pasted in and changed the notes on the staff; didn't work. Any suggestions?
