Crackling playback still

• Jan 30, 2025 - 09:55

I bought a new computer and haven't had it a week to use this software. I now note that I get one decent uninterrupted playback when opening the score. If I stop and edit and try and playback I get the standard crackling, distorted noise noise and the blue playback cursor not playing in real time due to the distortions. Otherwise I am constantly closing the program to hear what's going on in real time. This is a new computer that exceeds specs so is this another series of problems with Muse? It's really hard to function using this.

Everyone's system is different. This How To is a list of settings you can try to get good sound. Not every setting will show any improvement. What works for one person may not work for another person. Recently, someone went through the list and had no luck. Then they turned off Hardware Acceleration and things were fine. That setting is not in the list yet. You'll see it is on the same window that Exclusive mode is on. Buffer setting of 4096 may not be needed any more. But it is worth trying different settings. Here is the link.

Good luck.

Hi thanks. I'm stuck with the direction of control panel as I can't see anything like the icons shown or anything All I have is the standard operating choices in the top left listing with file- edit-view etc when a score is opened or not. I can't see sounds or select playback. I certainly can't see the choices shown in the pictures on that link.

The instructions are for Windows. MuseScore shouldn't be open.

In Windows there is a search area in the taskbar at the bottom of the desktop. Enter "con", and Control Panel will be one of the choices. Open Control Panel and select the Speaker (Sound) icon.
