How to quickly select notes with the same staff, measure and beat with the mouse
I can't find a way to do this other than right clicking the note -> select -> more -> same voice + same beat + same measure -> OK, which takes too much time. Here is what I have tried:
- Dragging the mouse across the score with the left, right and middle mouse buttons, all of which move the score
- Single clicking, which depending on where you click either selects a singular note, selects the measure, or selects engraving elements like the notes tail
- Double clicking, which does the same as single clicking unless you click the bar in which case it enters input mode at the start of the bar
- Looking in the toolbars and menus where I couldn't see anything that looked like it would do this
- Looking for ways to add items to the select menu both in setting and in the select -> more dialogue
If this is not possible, I think that I nice solution to the problem could be being able to add options to the right click -> select menu from either:
- The right click -> select -> more dialogue, or;
- The preferences dialogue

I must be missing something. If you select a note, you've already done all the things. So please post a short score with details about what you want to do.

Here is my score. I want to copy one of the octave spans, paste it in the next measure, and move it up a couple notes.

Click one of the chord notes. Ctrl+click the other.

Okay, so click on one of the notes in the octave span and press R.

Next press up arrow a couple times to move the span up a couple notes.

Only with the mouse says the OP. Frankly I don`t know.

If unwilling to shift to his (remotely located) split keyboard, the OP can use an on-screen keyboard to solely employ mouse clicks.

I said with the mouse (without using the keyboard). My setup is designed for being a programmer, and my keyboard is in two halves. The two halves of my keyboard and my mouse are so far away that it is quicker and easier to press a couple extra mouse buttons than to move my hand between the keyboard halves and mouse. Usually this is fine because I can use my text editor (helix) entirely with my keyboard, and so I only have to switch to my mouse when web browsing which is quite rare for me when I'm programming. In muse score however, I'm not yet willing to put in the time to learn all the shortcuts to use muse score solely with the keyboard, and so I have instead opted to learn how to quickly use the mouse to do everything since I expected it to be quicker than moving my hands between the keyboard and the mouse.
Everything you have suggested--if they existed, which they don't--would take longer--even MUCH longer--than the extremely quick right-click / Select / More and choosing the options you want. If that "takes too long", then I really suggest you talk to your doctor about your severe lack of attention span.
TLDR: There is no other way and likely won't be.

Please ignore TheHutch rudeness.
I assume that in your example that you want to copy the octave Cs into another measure. We don't know which beat you want to copy to. In this case there is no need to CTRL+click anything. Or use the right click menu. If it is just to the first beat in the next measure, Follow the already given steps involving "R". If not try this.
Select the bottom C. Then hold the shift key and select the upper C. This is called a range select. Now CTRL+C. Select the target location (whatever beat you want the notes to go to), then CTRL+V.
OK I missed the part about mouse only.
I don't believe it is possible, nor desirable, to do everything in MuseScore with either the mouse or the keyboard.
I am a mouser and have no interest in learning all the shortcuts. Yet there are times when the keyboard is a must. And I use a trackball mouse, which is much faster than a regular mouse.
Notation software isn't like any other software.

Thanks. I've decided that being able to box select notes would be a better way to (with only the mouse) copy one of the octave spans, paste it in the next measure, and move it up a couple notes than being able to customize the options in the select menu. And, if box selecting notes is implemented, then I can't think of a good use case for customizing options in the select menu.
