Imported mid file with multiple instruments.
Would like to isolate melody track and print similar to lead sheet.

This may depend on the state of this MIDI file. Sometimes, voices can be mixed and it would take too long to go into detail
But if the melody is clearly displayed in, say, the first staff, simply remove the unnecessary instruments. Probably too simple!

Well, since the melody was played by the Double Bass, I removed the first three instruments. Then changed the Double Bass for the Cello (for a question of pitch range). See: 1Yesterday.mscz
Then, you can change for the instrument you prefer and transpose if necessary. It's up to you.

Thanks but cannot open as get error of made with newer version ... do not want to upgrade at this time.

Also more interested in the how's of getting it done than someone doing it for me .... but thanks.

Well, sorry, but I cannot guess you are using 3.6.2 if you don't tell us.
To delete instruments, and other features, the handbook can be your friend :)
